Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has exposed the manufacturers and sales of counterfeit mainstream brand perfumes in the Mangga Besar Tamansari area, West Jakarta.

"The police officers arrested the owner of the business, who was later identified as HO, also known as J," Head of the Jakarta Police Public Relations division Police High Commissioner, Argo Yuwono, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He further explained that the police personnel first received information on the location of the manufacturer and sales of well-known brands, without marketing authorization permit from the Indonesian Food and Drug Agency.

The police followed the tip and raided the location of the illegal practice in Mangga Besar, Tamansari, West Jakarta. The officers found the owner and a number of workers carrying out production activities.

He then revealed that the perpetrator filled bottles of well-known perfume brands with pure perfume mixed with fragrant liquid and alcohol containing 26 percent of methanol.

After producing, they would then deliver the products to their consumers by hand.

They also sell the counterfeit products through door-to-door method and online-based platforms.

"They market their products as original perfumes that had been rejected in order to attract consumers," he remarked.

The market area included Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, West Sumatra, and South-East Sulawesi.
