The Indonesian embassy in Brussels in its statement received here on Monday said that Indonesia has coordinated the joint action and step needed by palm oil producing countries against the call put in a EU report.
Ambassadors from the palm oil producing countries agreed to send letters to the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Council and other stakeholders in the EU on February 15 with regard to their complaint.
They hoped with the letter EU institutions would accept their stance including that of Indonesia.
"By involving all palm oil producing countries, Indonesia wished to assure that its position as well as their concerns would be heard by the EU so that in the future the EU proposal would be rejected as a directive and would not hurt us," ad interim charge d`affairs of the Indonesian embassy in Bruseel Dupito D. Simamora said.
Indonesia earlier has also expressed its firm stance through approaches made at various levels including through foreign minister`s letters to EU Commission representative Federica Mogherini and EU foreign ministers as well as approaches made in Jakarta and Brussels to all stakeholders in the three EU institutions.
Although it had been adopted on January 17, 2018 the European Parliament`s report regarding the proposal to stop the use of palm oil for biofuel was not the final decision of the EU.
As a binding document agreement would still be needed between the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Council through a trialogue planned to be held in the fourth week of February.
To meet the process the Indonesian embassy in Brussels has continued and will continue to push other palm oil producing countries to fight it so that the proposal will not be implemented as it also runs counter to the principle of a just and free trade.
The Indonesian embassy in Brussels expressed appreciation to all palm oil producing countries for the joint letter they signed ahead of the trialogue. Indonesia hoped the views and stance of the palm oil producing countries would be seriously taken into consideration by the EU, he said.
