"This morning, I have ordered the Public Works and Public Housing Minister (Basuki Hadimuljono) to tighten his ministry`s supervision of the infrastructure construction projects," Widodo said here, following the accident that injured seven workers.
The ministry has temporarily suspended all elevated toll road projects under construction, following the collapse of the formwork of a pole on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road in East Jakarta early on Tuesday.
The contractors and those in charge of the projects have been requested to resubmit their methods of works and supervision procedures amid the fact that there have been 14 toll road project-related accidents over these past six months.
"The supervision must be tightened, because we do not just have one but many elevated infrastructure projects, such as flyover, light rapid transport, toll road, and elevated toll road projects. Therefore, we need tight supervision," Widodo stated.
The tightened supervision, he noted, would enable those involved in the construction works to avoid technical and human errors. "It is impossible if this detailed construction projects are just supervised modestly," he remarked.
Widodo also emphasized the importance of a detailed management control to supervise the construction works.
"This is the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry`s decision, because we have many construction projects. Some will be finished in 2020 and 2023, and others will be carried out to meet the needs of this year`s Asian Games," he revealed.
Apart from the timeline of the projects` completion, the detailed management control was indispensable, he explained, adding that the errors found in certain construction-related accidents would be evaluated by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.
Prior to this accident, there was an accident on the double track project of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train around Matraman area of Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
Last week, a box girder of the light rail construction project in Utan Kayu area, East Jakarta, also collapsed.
