Sentul, W Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) termed social media as the media without editorial, which could make anyone deliver his aspiration easily.

"Social media helps people deliver their aspirations easily, such as communication between the leader and his people. However, it is like a media without editorial," he noted, while giving a speech at the National Democratic Leaders Meeting (Rapimnas) of Democratic Party in 2018 at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), in Babakan Madang, here on Saturday.

He further remarked that social media is often used for spreading activities such as hoax, blasphemy, mockery, and hate speech, which create anxiety among people.

However, such a similar phenomenon is usually found in every country, besides Indonesia.

"Every leader would be surprised while reading news on the internet. For example, I read a piece of news about the Chinese military entering the country through Soekarno-Hatta Airport. After checking it with the police, I found out that the news was a hoax," he revealed.

Moreover, the president gave another example of the information related to the assault against the Ulema.

"The issue noted that there were 41 cases related to the Ulema on the internet. But actually, there were only three cases, which were handled seriously by police," he added.

The Head of state revealed that it could be done deliberately by people to confuse the atmosphere.

Hoax or any other wrong information on the internet must be prevented using the existing laws. Indonesian Police need to prosecute the perpetrators.

"We can see that the democracy in this country is good enough, but it should be improved again. We must keep the efforts to liberate political life," he stated.

The Democrat Party held a National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) in 2018 at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor, West Java.

The event was held for two days from March 10 to 11 in 2018.
