Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Youth Affairs and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi has hinted that bonuses for gold medalists of Indonesia in the Asian Games 2018 will increase by 250 percent than those in the Asian Games 2014 held in Icheon, South Korea.

Minister Nahrawi revealed the plan to increase the bonuses during a gala dinner on "Support and Pray for the Success of Indonesian Athletes" here on Tuesday evening.

The event was attended by representatives of 46 companies and automotive communities.

He said gold medalist in the Asian Paragames 2018 will also receive a similar bonus increase.

In 2014, a gold medalist received a bonus amounting to Rp400 million, and this year they will get Rp1.4 billion each athlete.

The money will be provided by the Finance Minister, according to the minister.

Indonesia has set a target of winning 16 gold medals.

In addition to gold medalists, their coaches and supporting teams will also be given bonuses.

Indonesia`s gold medalists receiving the highest bonuses so far are Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyana Natsir, badminton players who won gold medals in the World Olympics in Brazil. They each received Rp5 billion.

Indonesia will host the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang (South Sumatra Province) on Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018.
