Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta`s Governor Anies Baswedan said the mass rapid transit (MRT) system would inculcate the habit and culture of using public transportation among the people.

"I hope the MRT will be the interaction media between Jakarta residents and the surrounding areas, creating a culture of queues and punctuality, besides clean habits," he stated here, Thursday.

He took a look at the two sets of MRT railway circles at the MRT station in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.

The governor expects the MRT project will be completed in a timely manner, so that people can use the public transportation immediately.

According to Anies, the Jakarta MRT would be a melting pot because it would be used by all sections of the society.

He pointed out that priority seating would be made available to disabled and pregnant or elderly women in the MRT.

Furthermore, PT MRT Jakarta has prepared a team of 10 young and reliable machinists, including five women and men.

"The project has progressed 92.5 percent. We need to monitor it regularly," he remarked.

President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William Sabandar remarked the MRT would conduct several tests and preparations before the trial in December 2018 and starting operations in March 2019.

In August 2018, the first train will be piloted on track I, and in December 2018, it will be operated without passengers.
