Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry held a Diplomatic Gathering, Football for Peace 2018, which was opened by Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir here on Tuesday.

Around 150 people, including ambassadors of friendly countries, representatives of foreign diplomatic offices in Jakarta, representatives of ministries/agencies and State Enterprises Ministry, and partners of Uni Papua Football Community (UPFC), attended the event.

The diplomatic event was aimed at explaining the plan to implement 2018 Football for Peace activity, which will be carried out by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the UPFC in September.

"This event is initiated by UPFC. The Foreign Ministry only provides facilities for foreign ambassadors and diplomatic corps to support us in this initiative," Fachir remarked.

Prior to the implementation of Football for Peace 2018, a soccer match, involving several cabinet ministers, envoys of friendly countries, and public figures, will be held at the Soemantri Brodjonegoro stadium in South Jakarta`s Kuningan area.

The deputy foreign minister, in his address, remarked that the Football for Peace 2018 serves as a means to promote fraternity, friendship, and cooperation between Indonesia and the international community and promote world peace through social football.

"This activity is closely linked to Indonesia`s diplomacy, namely diplomacy for peace and humanitarian needs. UPFC is part of the Indonesian diplomacy," he explained.

On the occasion, Fachir also promoted Asia`s largest sporting event, the 2018 Asian Games, which will be held from August 18 to September 2, 2018, in Jakarta and South Sumatra provincial city, Palembang.

In addition, Indonesia will also host the Asian Para Games 2018, which will take place from October 6 to 13, 2018.

Meanwhile, UPFC chairman, Harry Widjaja, explained that Football for Peace 2018 activities was part of Indonesia`s efforts to promote world peace through social soccer activities.
