Surabaya, E Java, (ANTARA News) - The Surabaya chapter of Islamic Organization Muhammadiyah has denounced suspected terror bomb attacks at three churches in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya on Sunday morning.

"We, the Muhammadiyah regional executive board in Surabaya, ask the security agencies to probe the bomb attackers thoroughly," chief of the Islamic organization`s chapter, Mahsun Jayadi said.

Surabaya has so far been known as a secure and tranquil city, he said adding: "We appeal to all residents of Surabaya to stay alert by guarding the city."

He said his side has prepared members of the organization`s security command to help handle bomb victims. The help is in line with the vision of the organization to do its best for the people and nation.

"We are strongly opposed to the bomb attacks at churches in Surabaya this morning, regardless of the motives and reasons behind them and their perpetrators," he said.

Two people were killed and 13 others were injured in the bomb attacks,

"We suspect it is a suicide bomb attempt," spokesman for the East Java Provincial Police Senior Commissioner Frans Barung Mangera said.

One of the victims was the suicide bomber who died in the scene, while the other died at the hospital, he added.

"Thirteen people who sustain injuries have been rushed to the hospital. Two of them are on-duty police officers," he said.
