Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Chairman of the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organising Committee (Inasgoc), Erick Tohir, has said security during the international sport event would be stepped up in view of the recent bomb attacks in the country.

"Certainly there will be additional security. In detail, the police chief and the military chief would share this. But we cannot share it here because it is confidential," he said here on Monday, after a closed-door meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo on the preparations for the Games.

Inasgoc, he said, had worked in coordination with the police and the military to ensure the success of the Games. "The police chief has allocated personnel to four cities. As we know, the Indonesian military/police have some 900,000 personnel, the second largest in the world. Insya Allah (God willing), with close cooperation with all parties, we can maintain security for the Asian Games," said Erik Tohir.

In the meeting, Widodo said he wanted security in the country under control ahead of the Asian Games from August 18. All contingents must be convinced that Indonesia was safe, he said.

"Specifically, I want to have a report on security readiness. We want that participant countries are convinced that Indonesia is safe and security is fully under control," he said.
