The PVMBG will receive the world`s best award in the field of observation and monitoring of volcanology and geological disaster mitigation.
ESDM Minister Ignasius Jonan, in a press statement received here on Thursday, lauded the award and expressed hope that PVMBG`s achievement would continue to be improved in future.
"Congratulations to PVMBG on a very proud achievement that proves that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has provided the best for natural resource management, including protecting people from geological disasters," Jonan remarked.
In the meantime, IAVCEI President Director Don Dingwell said he had decided and selected the PVMBG to receive the award for its performance in volcanic crisis monitoring and management.
Dingwell remarked that the award will be presented in conjunction with the implementation of Cities on Volcanoes in Naples on September 2-7, 2018.
Head of PVMBG at the Ministry of ESDM Kasbani remarked that this award is a proud achievement, as from hundreds of volcanological organizations across the world, PVMBG was selected by IAVCEI as the first organization to receive it.
"Assessment is based on the aspects of volcano monitoring and the institution`s volcanic crises management before, during, and after eruptions," he explained.
Hence, it demonstrates that what PVMBG has done, so far, is good, so it has been acknowledged by the world`s largest volcanology organization, IAVCEI.
However, he remarked that this award also poses a challenge for PVMBG in future to be able to maintain its performance and also improve the quality of monitoring volcanoes in Indonesia.
