Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Director of Wahid Foundation Yenny Wahid spoke of democratic values in Indonesia during an international symposium in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday.

The forum, attended by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was held for the fourth time since 2015 and bore the theme: "Shared Values and Democracy in Asia."

Bringing together circles of intellectuals and researchers from various Asian countries, the forum was organized by the Japan Foundation Asia Center (JFAC).

"I was invited to give my contribution on shared values and democracy, which are relevant and critical to the current global conditions," Wahid, the daughter of former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid, noted.

She said the topics on shared values and democracy are in line with her foundation`s cause in Indonesia.

"JFAC organized the forum to hold a dialog aimed at reaching a common cultural understanding and building a strong foundation to implement the shared values and democracy in Asia in future," she remarked.

Other speakers came from India, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, and several other Asian countries, among others.

On the occasion, Wahid also introduced the Wahid Foundation, which has so far been active in promoting peace and plurality in Indonesia, a country with the world`s largest Muslim population and third-largest democracy.
