Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Central Jakarta Forestry Agency has intensified the watering of the green belt area ahead of the Asian Games 2018.

"We are trying to beautify Jakarta City by watering the green belt area in Central Jakarta," Central Jakarta Forestry Agency head Sabdo Kurnianto said here on Tuesday.

The watering should be conducted intensively as Jakarta faces the dry season.

As a result, the city would look beautiful during the dry season.

Eight water tanks will operate every day from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The watering will be intensified in the green belt areas, such as Jalan Jendral Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, and Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, along the sidewalk that has ornamental plants and trees.

"The watering will be conducted on Jalan Gunung Sahari and around the Kemayoran homestead of athletes," he revealed.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) earlier observed the readiness of a number of facilities and sports arena for the 2018 Asian Games in the South Sumatra provincial capital city.

Boarding the special presidential aircraft Indonesia-1, the president and his entourage departed from Jakarta`s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 8 a.m. on Friday and arrived at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport here 50 minutes later.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin greeted Jokowi upon arrival at the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport, before the president observed the Jakabering sport arena.

In addition, Governor Alex Noerdin stated that the president will inaugurate the rowing track for the 2018 Asian Games in the sports area of Jakabaring, Palembang.

The governor added that the president is also planning to review the light-weight train or "light rail transit" (LRT).

In the early stages, the LRT will be used as a means of transportation for participants of the Asian Games during the August-September 2018 period.

The president will also review the labor-intensive program in one of the districts of South Sumatra.
