"This morning we carry out Indonesian Harmony 2018 for what? To commemorate, to enliven the 2018 independence month in commemorating the 73th year of Indonesia`s independence," the President said at the `Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK)`, here on Sunday.
Students of 34 state and private universities from a number of provinces in Indonesia as well as several representatives of students who are continuing their education abroad were also singing together
while wearing national customary attire.
A number of Working Cabinet ministers and government officials participated in the event.
The head of state also explained that the event was aimed to encourage the athletes who will compete in the 2018 Asian Games championship.
"We want the big event of the 2018 Asian Games to be successful in preparing it, success in its implementation, and we are successful in the achievements of our athletes," said Jokowi.
The president also hummed with the participants accompanied by Addie MS as the orchestration conductor.
The event was initiated by the 2018 Indonesian Harmony Team supported by Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mohamad Nasir, Advisory Council of President Sidarto Danusubroto, Special Staff of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing Firdaus Ali among others.
In addition to the Indonesian traditional clothing, a number of participants wore ceremonial attire that showed the diversity of national cultural customs.
They sing national anthems like "Indonesia Raya, Satu Nusa Satu Bangsa, Garuda Pancasila, Bagimu Negeri, and Rayuan Pulau Kelapa".
Indonesia will host the Asian Games for the second time after Jakarta was selected as the venue for the Asian sporting event for the first time in 1962.
Jakarta and the South Sumatran Provincial capital of Palembang will host the largest Asian sporting events from August 18 to September 2, 2018.
The games will be attended by 45 countries, and will feature 462 events in 40 sports, of which 32 are Olympic sports and eight are non-Olympic events.
The Olympic sports are Aquatics, Athletics, Fencing, Weightlifting, Basketball, Handball, Badminton, Baseball/Softball, Cycling, Equestrian, Golf, Wrestling, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Canoeing and Kayaking, Sailing, Shooting, Modern Pentathlon, Archery, Sport Climbing, Rowing, Rugby, Gymnastics, Roller Skating, Football, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Boxing, Triathlon, and Volleyball.
The non-Olympic sports are Bowling, Bridge, Cricket, Kabaddi, Martial Arts (including Jujitsu, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Sambo, and Wushu), Mechanical Sports (such as Paragliding and Jet skiing), Squash, and Sepak Takraw.
