"After being paraded around the city of Palembang, it will spend a night at the Mayor`s official residence, before the relay continues on Sunday (5/8) to a number of area in South Sumatra, starting with the Banyuasin sub-district," said Charge d`Affairs for Palembang`s Mayor Harobin Mastofa in Palembang, Saturday.
He further stated that he will lead the relay himself by carrying the torch along with the people of Palembang as well as representatives of local communities, to the Alang-Alang Lebar terminal which borders the city with Banyuasin sub-district.
Previously, spokesperson of the Asian Games Regional Committee, Akhmad Yusuf, who is also the Head of the South Sumatra Youth and Sports Office, explained that the Torch Relay of the Asian Games will continue to several other areas before going to Lampung.
After Palembang, on 5-7 August the march will be continued to Pangkalan Balai, Banyuasin sub-district, then taken to Sekayu, Musi Banyuasin sub-district.
The extensive journey of the Torch Relay had passed through 18 provinces and 64 cities in Indonesia. Starting from Jogjakarta to the rest of Central Java on July 18, then East Java on July 20, Bali on July 23, West Nusa Tenggara on July 25, West Papua on July 26, South Sulawesi on July 29 and South Kalimantan on July 30.
The journey through Sumatra was started from Banda Aceh, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam on July 31, then North Sumatra, Riau, West Sumatra and Jambi on August 3.
Furthermore, the procession Palembang takes place on 4 and 5 August and continued in several other South Sumatra regions before the parade head to Bandar Lampung, Lampung on 8-9 August.
From Bandar Lampung, it will cross over to Cilegon and Serang, Banten on 9 and 10 August, and before it enters Jakarta, it will pass through Bandung on August 11 and 12.
On August 17, the torch will be handed to President Joko Widodo in the State Palace to then be carried to the Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on August 18.
