Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) ensured that volcanic activities of Mount Agung in Bali and Mt Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara Province remain normal despite Sunday`s magnitude-7 earthquake that hit Lombok Island.

"According to our colleagues, who have been monitoring the condition of Mt Agung and Mt Rinjani, there is no increase in the volcanic activities after the earthquake," Chief of the Bandung PVMBG Kasbani noted here on Monday.

The earthquake that again hit Lombok Island in West Nusa Tenggara Province on Sunday was caused by active fault lines on the northern slope of Mount Rinjani, with its epicenter being on the land, he revealed.

The strong quake damaged the wall of PVMBG`s observation post near Mt Rinjani and Mt Agung and led to the positions of its two equipment getting misplaced. However, the equipment remain functional," he noted.

The PVMBG`s team members attempted to fix the equipment`s positions, so that they could again work normally," he revealed.

The magnitude-7 quake had reportedly killed 91 people and caused injuries to 209. It also damaged thousands of houses and forced tens of thousands of local residents to take refuge.

In response to the impacts of this deadly disaster, President Joko Widodo has instructed his concerned ministers, particularly Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto and other stakeholders, to immediately address them.

The immediate response includes evacuation of injured and dead victims and dispatch of relief aid.
