"Members of FDNY were called to UN headquarters at 1126 a.m. to rescue two workers on a scaffold stuck outside the 39th floor of the building," Sophia Kim, an FDNY spokeswoman told Xinhua News Agency. "A glass window pane was removed and the workers were brought inside."
Members of the FDNY`s Emergency Medical Service examined the workers, who were not identified, she said. "There were no injuries."
The UN`s Security and Safety Service identified the workers only as window washers, stuck on the east side of the iconic structure, overlooking the East River.
Apparatus from about a dozen FDNY units and the New York Police Department choked traffic on First Avenue on the West side of the landmark building, raising concern of some about security with the opening of the annual VIP-laden General Assembly session next month.
The incident was declared under control just an hour later, Kim said.
Further details of the incident were not immediately available.
