The landslide triggered falling of huge boulders at Kulighad in Kishtwar, about 225 km south of Srinagar, the capital city of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Today a mini-bus carrying Hindu pilgrims to a local shrine was hit by huge boulders following a landslide at Kulighad in Kishtwar," a police official at Jammu police control room told Xinhua. "Five people were killed and eight others injured in the accident."
Following the accident police teams rushed to the spot to evacuate the injured to hospital and retrieve bodies.
Police officials said a car was also hit by the landslide.
Last month eight people were killed and over 30 others injured after a landslide hit a picnic spot in the region. The victims were bathing under the 400-feet-high waterfall, when the landmass fell upon them.
Indian-controlled Kashmir has a rugged terrain. Landslides are often triggered from its mountains during frequent rains.
