Solo, C. Java (ANTARA News) - The Adi Soemarmo airport of Surakarta is set to break into the ranks of best quality airports in the world after renovation now underway in cooperation with the Airport Council International (ACI).

"Through this cooperation we have a target to break into the ranks of five best airports in the world in the category of 2.5 million passengers per year," General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Bandara Adi Soemarmo Abdullah Usman on the sidelines of the signing cooperation agreement between the state-owned airport operator and ACI here on Monday.

Usman said under the cooperation agreement, ACI is not an agent to give assessment, but it will show what needs to be renovated such as in facilities or services.

He said last year the Adi Soemarmo airport was ranked the 23 best in the world in the category of 5 million-15 million passengers per year.

"This year we change the category to one with the number of passengers at 2.5 million per year," he said.

He said currently the airport serves 8,000 passengers per day, and the number is predicted to rise in 2019 with the expansion of the facilities.

"One of the facilities is the airport train now in the process of construction. We predict the number of air passengers would rise to 22,000 per day," he said.
