Bogor, W. Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has encouraged Indonesia`s state enterprises to take part in the project to build thousands of public houses in Namibia.

The president, commonly known as Jokowi, made the statement while addressing the press at a joint press conference with his Namibian counterpart Hage Gottfried Geingob here at the Bogor Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

Jokowi said he had encouraged state-run construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) to participate in the infrastructure project in Namibia.

"We have discussed various issues to enhance bilateral ties. In the infrastructure sector, I have called on Indonesian state firm PT Wika to participate in infrastructure development in Namibia, especially to build public housing along with a local company in Namibia," the president revealed.

Jokowi has held a discussion with Geingob on the potential for Indonesia to develop two thousand social housing units and other big projects in Namibia.

"I have sought President Geingob`s support for the business deal to be signed during the Indonesia Africa Infrastructure Dialogue planned to be held in August 2019 in Bali," he elaborated.

The two heads of state had also discussed on an agreement in other sectors, including in the trade, maritime, and fishery sectors.

President Geingob is on a three-day state visit to Indonesia from Aug 29 to Sept 1. It was the first visit for the president.

President Jokowi welcomed his Namibian counterpart, saying that it was an honor to welcome the Namibian delegation.

"Diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Namibia were established since May 13, 1991, and this will be the first visit for President Geingob to Indonesia as a president," Jokowi added.

The Namibian president and his entourage were greeted during a state welcome ceremony at the Bogor Presidential Palace.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman were present at the occasion.
