"If not resolved properly, Rohingya`s humanitarian problem is feared to disrupt the stability in the ASEAN region," the House Speaker said in a press statement.
Soesatyo, who is popularly called Bamsoet, made the statement during a meeting with Singapore`s President Halimah Yacob, and the chairmen of parliament of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) at the Singapore Presidential Palace in Singapore on Wednesday.
The chairmen of the parliaments of Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, and Indonesia attended the meeting.
On this occasion, Bamsoet invited ASEAN member countries to help find the best solution for the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. "If this problem is not resolved immediately, it is feared to disrupt ASEAN`s future as a stable, peaceful, and open economic region," he explained.
Bemsoet, who is a former chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, revealed that at the meeting, Singapore`s Halimah Yacob asked AIPA members to always be compact and critical of the various problems that occur in the ASEAN region. Halimah also expressed hope that the cooperation in the ASEAN region can be increased again.
"AIPA member countries are expected to be able to increase their roles and cooperation in global forums. AIPA parliamentary delegations must be held frequently to create solid cooperation," Bamsoet elaborated.
He added that the meeting also discussed the issue of terrorism that continues to emerge. The Chairperson of AIPA Parliament agreed that the issue of terrorism is a common enemy, because terrorist attacks can occur at any time and in any country.
"The House hopes that cooperation between AIPA member countries in handling terrorism can be further enhanced. Terrorism is now a real threat to all countries in the world without exception," he noted.
Bamsoet reminded that at this time, there has been a change in the pattern of operations of terrorism, from a single action to a joint action with family members.
"The terrorist modus operandi that involves women and children is very worrying and dangerous. Cooperation in the field of information exchange related to terrorism threats between ASEAN countries is important in order to minimize terrorism," Bamsoet pointed out.
