"In order to increase agricultural yields, I agree that the government needs to subsidize farmers," House Commission IV member Endang Srikarti Handayani remarked in a release here on Thursday.
The Golkar party politician remarked that the government must have a breakthrough so that those who are young can be excited again in building the agricultural sector in their respective villages.
The Ministry of Agriculture has reportedly wanted an award for agricultural entrepreneurs to motivate young people in the country who want to become farmers.
"Agricultural awards are expected to motivate agricultural actors as well as become an agricultural attraction for the younger generation," Agriculture Ministry Secretary General Syukur Iwantoro said at a ceremony of awarding the National Level for Agricultural Exemplary here recently.
Syukur Iwantoro said that in the past 10 years, the Nusantara farming family has decreased from 31 million to 26 million.
To that end, he expects the district / city level government to provide awards in stages so that it can motivate and inspire young people.
In 2018, as every year, the Ministry of Agriculture again gave National Level Awards to 27 exemplary people consisting of three outstanding farmers, three outstanding farmer groups (Gapoktan), three outstanding economic institutions of farmers, three exemplary agricultural extension agents, and three halls outstanding agricultural counseling.
In addition, there are also nine outstanding managers of self-supporting agricultural and rural training centers (P4S), and three outstanding achievers.
"It is hoped that they can be a motivator for rural communities, especially the younger generation, that farmers do not impoverish but prosper," he said.
