"KPU must keep on updating the data so the DPT for the 2019 general elections would be clean and valid," the House Speaker said in a statement here on Thursday.
The House of Representatives (DPR) has asked the KPU to verify and update the data following findings of duplicate voter names in the DPT, he stated.
He also asked the Commission to announce results of its verification and update to the public to prevent any suspicion and abuse of the voting rights.
Earlier, the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) found duplicate voter names among 10,798 names in Batam, 8,862 in Tasikmalaya, 6,777 in Banyumas, and 1,036 in Purwakarta.
Bawaslu and KPU must carry out mapping of regions having duplicate data of voters, the Golkar senior politician explained.
Invalid data are prone to abuse and misuse in general elections, he added.
Meanwhile, Gerindra Party and several other parties supporting president hopeful Prabowo Subianto in the upcoming 2019 presidential election claimed to find 25 million duplicate voter names registered on the temporary voters` list (DPS).
"We have found some 25 million duplicate votes names on the list. We even found some of the data being duplicated up to 11 times in some regions," Mustafa Kamal, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) secretary-general, a party member of Subianto`s coalition, was quoted as saying by Kompas daily.
KPU, however, believed that duplicate identities in the DPT will not exceed two percent of the total number of voters. The KPU is currently sorting the DPT up to Sept 15.
"We are sure that the number will be under two percent, it could even be lower than one percent of the total DPT," KPU Commissioner Viryan Azis was quoted as saying by Tempo on Wednesday.
