"We appreciate all selfless volunteers who have dedicated themselves to help people in need," the minister stated, when opening the 2018 National PMI Volunteer Work Meeting in Jatiluhur, Purwakarta, West Java, on Monday.
He noted that PMI never differentiates anyone based on their ethnicity, religion, race, and political perspective, rather PMI applies the same humanitarian principles to all.
According to him, volunteers from 34 provinces in Indonesia will be able to learn a lot through the PMI Volunteer Work Meeting, which was attended by around 5 thousand volunteers and also the 73rd Anniversary of PMI`s reflection.
Moreover, this activity was followed by Red Cross institutions from various countries, including the Asian Continent, Europe, and America.
The minister further remarked that there were three main activities involved, namely conducting workshops on the red cross, use of social media in organizational imaging, and entrepreneurship. This is followed by meeting national volunteers to cross-country volunteers.
To develop capacity and work, the participants will work with the Citarum River watershed community and care about health and disaster response simulations.
Meanwhile, Daily Executive Chairman of PMI Ginanjar Kartasasmita explained that the 2018 National PMI Volunteer Work Meeting was a momentum to review the position of PMI`s role in assisting the government based on Law No. 1 of 2018 on the red cross.
"So this activity is a guidance for volunteers, means of education and training, and dissemination of information on the red cross," he pointed out.
