"We have, in fact, learnt from past experiences. Preparations have already been made for transitioning to the rainy season," Rampangilei stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Rampangilei noted that his side had coordinated with the regional government and regional disaster management agencies (BPBD) whose areas were prone to flooding and landslides in the rainy season.
The coordination starts from mitigation and raising awareness among members of the community on necessary actions to be taken when a disaster occurs.
"This includes coordinating the preparedness of BPBD across Indonesia, both its members and equipment. All these are the precautionary measures taken during the transition to the rainy season," he explained.
Speaking in connection with the detection of possible landslides in certain areas to provide an early warning to the public, Rampangilei noted that not all landslide-prone areas had detection devices.
"Detection devices for land movements are still not sufficient," he noted.
Rampangilei noted that the September-October 2018 period was the end of the dry season. The BNPB has made several efforts during the dry season to deal with drought and forest and land fires.
