Solo, Central Java (ANTARA News) - The local government of Central Java aims to achieve US$6.151 billion in exports this year following efforts undertaken to boost the province`s export value.

"Until now, the province`s export value this year has reached $4.5 billion," Head of Central Java`s Commerce and Industry Department Arif Sambodo stated here on Friday.

Sambodo noted that based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, the province`s export value in the first period of this year increased by 12.8 percent as compared to the same period last year.

"It means the increase of the US dollar rate against the rupiah has had a good impact on the export activities in Central Java," he pointed out.

He cited that some products, including textiles and derivative products, wood and its derivative products, as well as manufactured products, had become Central Java`s leading export commodities.

"The biggest contribution to the province`s exports is still from the traditional market, such as the United States, Japan, and China," Sambodo remarked.

He pointed out that one of the efforts to accelerate the province`s exports was to penetrate untapped markets.

Hence, Sambodo has urged local businessmen to not only focus on the traditional market but to also begin exploring other markets.
