Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev conveyed a message of condolences to the victims of the Lion Air JT 610 aircraft which crashed off the Tanjung Karawang waters in West Java on Monday.

The Kazakh president conveyed the message of condolences through President Joko Widodo, according to information received from the Kazakhstan Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday.

" Nazarbayev has sent a message of condolences through Widodo," Kazakhstan Ambassador Askhat T. Orazbay stated on Tuesday while meeting at the Indonesian Kazakhstan Friendship Club in Jakarta.

On behalf of the government and people of Kazakhstan and personally, the Kazakh head of state expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, the statement said.

The ill-fated Lion Air plane, with 189 people on board, en route to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang, crashed into the waters of Tanjung Karawang just 13 minutes after takeoff from Cengkareng`s Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 6:20 a.m. West Indonesia Standard Time.

According to preliminary information from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there were no Kazakh citizens on the plane.

In addition, Orazbay also noted that Nazarbayev offered his condolences to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala in Central Sulawesi.

" Nazarbayev expressed his condolences through the Deputy Foreign Minister of A.M. Fachir, who was in Kazakhstan recently to attend a meeting," he added.

This is the final year for Kazakhstan to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and support Indonesia, which replaced the former (Kazakhstan) for the period 2019-2020.
