Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A rise in the price of red chili was one of the factors contributing to Indonesia`s inflation rate of 0.28 percent in October 2018, Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suhariyanto said.

"The price of red chili contributed 0.09 percent to the inflation in the staple food group," he stated in a press briefing here on Thursday.

The other commodities contributing to the October 2018 inflation were gasoline Pertamax, Pertamax Turbo, Pertalite, house rent, and rice, he noted.

He added that the prices of orange, filtered clove cigarettes, concrete steel, cement, gold jewelry, house rents, domestic helpers` wages, and toll fees were also on the increase.

However, other commodities, including chicken eggs, air transport tariffs, onion, and purebred chicken, recorded deflation.

Clothing recorded the highest inflation rate of 0.54 percent, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel at 0.42 percent; processed food, beverages, cigarette, and tobacco at 0.27 percent; and transportation, communication, and financial services at 0.26 percent.

"The increase in the price of non-subsidized gasoline contributed 0.06 percent after the prices of Pertamax rose by Rp700-Rp900 and Pertamax Turbo increased by Rp1,350-Rp1,500 (per liter), while the prices of Pertalite increased in some regions and declined in other regions," he explained.

He added that foodstuffs contributed 0.15 percent to the inflation, while education, recreation and sports rose 0.09 percent, and health care contributed 0.06 percent.

Cumulatively, the inflation rate in the January-October 2018 period reached 2.22 percent, while the year-on-year inflation rate was recorded at 3.16 percent.

Despite being relatively low, the October 2018 inflation of 0.28 percent is higher than 0.14 percent recorded in 2016 and 0.01 percent recorded in 2017.

The agency noted that 66 out of 82 cities surveyed for consumer price index recorded inflation, while the remaining 16 cities saw deflation.

The highest inflation of 2.27 percent was recorded in Palu, and the lowest inflation of 0.01 percent was seen in Cilegon.
