"As a driver of infrastructure development in Indonesia, PINA accelerates project financial transactions because it also acts as a facilitator, pipelining or preparing a list of projects that are ready to be offered to investors, and building an investment ecosystem," Bambang stated at the Biennial Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) Conference on the Gold Coast, Australia, according to an official statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Monday.
According to the minister, he also encouraged Australian investors to participate in building infrastructure in 10 of Indonesia`s Priority Tourism Destinations with the PINA scheme.
As the main sector of the economy, the Indonesian Government has set 10 National Priority Tourism Destinations.
The 10 tourism destinations are Tanjung Lesung; Tanjung Kelayang; Mandalika; Morotai; Lake Toba; Thousand Islands; Borobudur; Bromo, Tengger, and Semeru; Labuan Bajo; and Wakatobi.
The first four destinations function as Tourism Special Economic Zones (KEK), while the last six serve as National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN).
The government realizes it will need a large investment to build 10 tourism destinations that require infrastructure development to support connectivity.
"The investment trend in the tourism sector in Indonesia has grown steadily over the past five years. The investment realization value of 10 Priority Tourism Destinations has reached 46.7 percent of the total tourism sector investment in 2012-2017, but most of the realization occurred in Jakarta. We are to increase investment flows in other priority tourism destinations," Bambang remarked.
