"Positive growth was recorded in almost all sectors in the third quarter of this year, head of the regional office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Sukardi said here on Monday.
The main contributors to the West Sumatra economic growth in the third quarter of this year were agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
The province recorded a 8.41 percent growth in exports, 7.56 percent increase in the consumption by non profit institutions and 5.45 percent growth in government consumption.
Cumulatively the province recorded an economic growth of 5.01 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters of the year.
West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said the province would rely more on investment for economic growth as its budget fund is relatively small.
"We do have funds from the central government, but all already has appropriation," Irwan said.
He said the tourism sector is potential for investment in West Sumatra, adding the tourism sector began to grow in the province.
