Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The government will implement the digital signature system for population documents starting from next year, Director General for Population Affairs and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) Zudan Arif Fakrulloh stated.

"We will become more digital in the population and civil registration services by implementing the digital signature system next year," Fakrulloh noted here on Monday.

Fackrulloh made the statement during a coordination meeting on population registration and preparations for the 2019 general elections at the provincial level of South Sulawesi.

He explained that with the application of digital signature systems, population documents, such as birth certificates and family cards, which require signatures, will no longer rely on the presence of the Service Office heads in the office.

"The process of population documents would not be hampered despite the head of the office being on outside duty, as digital signatures can be given through an iPad, cellphone, or other devices," he elaborated.

The office heads are required to register their specimen signatures to be matched in the application of digital signatures until next December, so they can be implemented from next year.

Fakrullon also encouraged the Dukcapil in South Sulawesi Province to optimize services via devices to make it easier for people to obtain population documents.

He cited the example of how online birth certificate services have been implemented in Solo, Central Java.

With this service, he explained that the public can print birth certificates from anywhere, thus no longer necessitating them to visit the Dukcapil office.

"It can be printed from anywhere. For instance, from home or office. The important thing is the network is there," he added.

Fakrulloh said his side had prepared the application for this online birth certificate, and regions, such as South Sulawesi, can implement it.
