Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan wants to encourage the building of crude palm oil or CPO power plants next year.

"I further encourage next year we try to build CPO power plants," Jonan said here on Monday (Nov.26), while attending the forum of 2019 Business Challenges.

The forum of Business Challenges was also attended by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.

According to Jonan, he paid attention to the use of CPO as fuel for the power plants while visiting Italy and hoped this can reduce the cost of producing electricity.

"The state-owned Electricity Company (PLN`s) diesel engines currently cost around 15 to 20 cents per kWh. If you use CPO, the cost might decline," he said.

The minister added that the use of CPO as fuel for electric power plants is expected to reduce the import of petroleum fuel.

"In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the use of palm oil will also reduce the import of fuel oil," Jonan added.
