"We have sent the experts to Myanmar to help the country in its effort to increase its capacity in agriculture sector through a training," Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar Iza Fadri remarked in a press statement received by Antara here on Sunday.
The training was also aimed at increasing Indonesia`s contribution in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mandated by the United Nations.
The training entitled "Dispatch Expert on Agriculture for Myanmar" was held at Hlegu Township, Yangon, Myanmar, and participants were expected to be able to pass on their new knowledge and skills to their friends upon returning to the area.
Furthermore, the training is also expected to encourage bilateral cooperation and relations between the two countries and strengthen contact between citizens in both countries.
Meanwhile, Yangon Regional Director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Irrigation U Kyaw Kyaw said that this training had been carried out in Myanmar rightly, considering that the country had a need to improve the quality of fruits and vegetables.
"Make the best use of the presence of Indonesian agricultural experts to increase national agricultural capacity," concluded Kyaw.
The training, which was held for four days, was attended by 23 farmers from six regions across Myanmar, namely, Mandalay, Bago, Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Shan, and Rakhine.
In addition, the training was also attended by seven participants from the government, academia and NGOs engaged in agriculture who will learn about cultivation techniques and post-harvest processing for leafy vegetable commodities such as kale, pokcai, mustard, cabbage, and spinach.
The two experts sent from the Lembang Center for Agricultural Training (BBPP) had enough experience teaching and training farmers from various countries.
It is hoped that through this program, besides being able to increase the capacity of farmers, Myanmar can also share information with Indonesian experts in agricultural development through the horticulture method.
