The government`s efforts to prepare the two transportation modes are going well, with the construction of several toll roads, the vice president stated.
"Several preparations are now being made for road infrastructure and air transportation system. People want only two modes of transportation i.e., land and air. Those who choose the sea lane are not as many as they earlier were," Kalla noted after delivering a keynote address at the 2018 Sustainable Development Goals Conference at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta, Monday.
Kalla remarked that institutions, such as the Ministry of Transportation, airlines, and PT Angkasa Pura, had made preparations to deal with the surge in the number of passengers as in previous years.
PT Angkasa Pura II will open the 2019 Christmas and New Year Post at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from December 20, 2018, to January 6, 2019.
The transportation flow for the 2019 Christmas and New Year is also forecast to peak during those days.
PT Angkasa Pura II estimates a five percent increase in prospective passengers.
The number of passengers is forecast to peak at 223,556 on January 6, 2019, or a 16 percent jump from 192,726 travelers on the same day in 2018.
Airlines have prepared some 1,393 schedules for additional domestic flights as a precautionary measure to handle the increase in travelers during the Christmas and New Year 2019.
