The Chinese president conveyed the condolences in a written statement to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday, according to the Chinese media.
In the condolence statement, Xi claimed that he was surprised to learn the Sunda Strait tsunami, which took the lives of people and caused damages to locals` homes and other public facilities.
On behalf of the Chinese government and people, and on his own behalf, Xi expressed his condolences to Jokowi over the victims` families, the dead, and the injured, and those who were affected by the natural disaster.
According to Jinping, Indonesia is a good neighbor and so the people of China could deeply feel the suffering of the Indonesian people who were affected by the tsunami.
Xi strongly believed that the Indonesian government, under the leadership of Jokowi, and all Indonesian people would be able to overcome the impact of the disaster.
The tsunami, which began with the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait on Saturday (Dec 22), had left 334 people dead and 1,016 injured, as per data from the National Disaster Management Agency.
A few days earlier, one Chinese company had signed a financing contract for a tourism facility development project in Tanjung Lesung, Banten, worth US$1 billion, which was also affected by the disaster.
Previously, Xi also conveyed a message of condolences over the crash of the Lion Air flight number JT610 near the beach in Karawang District, West Java, on Oct 29, 2018.
Xi also delivered a message of condolences to the victims of the tsunami disaster in Central Sulawesi on Sept 28, 2018.
