"We, Islamic mass organization in the MUI`s Advisory Board, encourage the Chinese government to treat Uighur ethic group as Chinese citizens properly," Chief of the MUI`s Advisory Board Din Syamsuddin said after the 33rd plenary meeting of the board here on Wednesday.
He stated that the MUI`s Advisory Board has also prepared a letter to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding Uighur Muslims.
The board was concerned about the latest developments affecting Uighur ethnic group in China`s Xinjiang province, he noted.
Moreover, the Chinese government has used the term "reeducation camp," which has raised questions.
"We are not in a position to intervene in the business of Uighur ethnic group`s wish to separate from China, but we only question what has happened to the Uighur ethnic group," he remarked.
The board also appreciated the step taken by the Indonesian government, through the Foreign Ministry, to call representative of the Chinese embassy and give them advises related to the Uighur ethnic group, he explained.
"Hence, the MUI`s Advisory Board has asked Deputy Indonesia Foreign Minister AM Fachir (to meet) the deputy Chinese foreign minister when he visits Indonesia next January. We do not rule out the possibility that we will meet the Chinese ambassador," he elaborated.
The persecution of Uighur ethnic group has resurfaced since some time ago. The international community, including the press, political figures, and humanity institutions, condemned the alleged violation of Uighur ethnic group`s human rights.
Reuters quoted a United Nations human rights panel as saying that it had recently received many credible reports that 1 million ethnic Uighurs in China are being held in what resembles a massive internment camp that is shrouded in secrecy.
