Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Lieutenant General Doni Monardo as new chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB), replacing Commodore (ret) Willem Rampangilei at the State Palace here on Wednesday, Jan 9.

Lieutenant General Monardo, formerly secretary general of the National Resilience Council, was appointed to the post of BNPB chief based on Presidential Decree No. 5/P of 2019.

Under the presidential decree, which began to take effect on January 9, 2019, Monardo has financial and administrative rights equal to that of ministers.

After reading out the decree, the head of state swore in Monardo, replacing Rampangilei as BNPB chief.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, President Jokowi, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and other invitees congratulated Monardo, who was the former commander of the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) during the term of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s government, on his appointment as new BNPB chief.

Also present at the inauguration ceremony were Deputy Chief of the People`s Consultative Assembly Muhaimin Iskandar, Chief of the Judicial Commission Ahmad Jaja Jayus, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Chief of the National Defense Forces Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Chief of the National Police General Tito Karnavian.
