"We still have some serious human rights violation cases from the past, and it is not easy to resolve it because of law complexity, proofing, and time gap, when they should have been resolved right away after it occurred," he noted.
"But we are still committed to resolve it," Widodo stressed it during a vision-mission segment during the presidential debate under a theme "law, human rights, corruption, and terrorism" at the Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta.
Within a three minute time, Jokowi stressed that he and his running mate, Ma`ruf Amin, would do their best to resolve the unfinished cases of human rights violation through law structural reform, good-governance, and law-abiding culture.
"We believe that if we become a more developed, more democratic, and modern state, then automatically law enforcement and human rights would be better," he said.
More importantly, Jokowi also promised to continue his effort to meet the basic need of the Indonesian people on economy, social, and culture, including health service, education, finance, as well as development.
"The law enforcement has to be for all, it should be firm without any discrimination," he said.
The first presidential debate was hosted by the General Elections Commission (KPU) and moderated by two senior television anchors, Ira Koesno and Imam Priono.
KPU would hold a total five presidential debates ahead of elections in April 2019, in a bid to give the two pairs of candidate, Jokowi-Ma`ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno, to present their views in various topics.
