"It has become the authority of the police. I think we should handle this case thoroughly to clean Indonesian football," the president noted here on Friday.
The Indonesian Police's Football Mafia Task Force has named 15 suspects allegedly involved in match fixing.
The task force has recently named acting chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Joko Driyono as a suspect for alleged involvement in destroying evidence of a match-fixing case at the office of PSSI's Disciplinary Commission on Feb 14.
Following the arrest of Driyono, the association has planned to hold its extraordinary congress.
"Go ahead, if the PSSI will hold a congress in accordance with the regulation of FIFA and PSSI itself," Jokowi noted.
The police suspected that Driyono had tasked three persons with seizing and destroying the evidence kept at a location already secured by a police line.
Driyono became acting PSSI chairman in late January after former chairman Edy Rahmayadi stepped down in the wake of a corruption probe.
