"Today is a historical day that is happy and proud for all of us. Today, Jakarta is starting a new chapter as the Jakarta International Stadium in this place will become the first world-class football stadium in Indonesia."
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan kicked the ball as a sign of the commencement of the construction of the Jakarta International Stadium and fulfilled his campaign promise during the gubernatorial election.

"Today is a historical day that is happy and proud for all of us. Today, Jakarta is starting a new chapter as the Jakarta International Stadium in this place will become the first world-class football stadium in Indonesia," Baswedan stated in the Sports Recreation Facility (SRO) in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Thursday.

He explained that in about two years and a half, he would see a stadium, which would be a dream come true.

"We must be able to show that users also have international standards (and) world-class procedures. The journey to this development is long and winding, I appreciate all those who have been involved in the process of building this stadium," he noted.

The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the regional government-owned company PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), followed up on its commitment to develop a world-class Integrated Sports Zone.

"We continue to develop this location, as there will be an MRT station that is located just north of us, which will lead to an expansion of the train station," the governor remarked.

The Jakarta International Stadium is in a very strategic location in the North Jakarta area and can be reached using public transportation modes, such as Commuterline, TransJakarta, LRT, and MRT.

In addition, the stadium is also traversed by the inner city highway and the outer ring, adding to the strategic value of the area.

With the construction of this stadium, the Jakarta Provincial Government will have three international standard sports facilities, namely the Jakarta International Velodrome, Jakarta International Equestrian Park, and Jakarta International Stadium.
