Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo instructed the provincial, district, and city governments to raise awareness of the 2019 simultaneous elections among the public to jointly ensure the success of the five-year festival of democracy.

"The local government, through its public relations (PR), should disseminate information for the success of the 2019 simultaneous elections by placing local media advertisements; installing banners, posters, and billboards; and moving civil servants for raising awareness," Kumolo noted here on Wednesday.

At the sub-district coordination meeting with the village head and civil service police unit (Satpol PP) as well as the Community Protection Unit (Linmas) in Jakarta on Wednesday, the minister had also conveyed that dissemination of information for election success would be simultaneously carried out in their respective regions.

The sub-district heads and their staff were urged to support the election organizers along with the Satpol PP and civil society organizations to maintain security and order before and during the voting day, under the coordination of the security forces.

Kumolo also invited all people to make the simultaneous election in 2019 a success by visiting the polling station to exercise their voting rights on Apr 17.

"Do not abstain and beware of the poisons of democracy, such as hoax, the campaign of uttering hate speeches, and money politics," he cautioned.

Simultaneous elections will be held on April 17, 2019, to enable the people to vote for presidential and vice presidential candidates, members of the House of Representatives, provincial and district/city legislators, and Regional Representative Council.
