Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) undertook a visit to a sports tourism destination in Kutuh Village, South Kuta Sub-district, Badung District, here on Friday.

"This is one of villages to have successfully utilized the village funds for its community's welfare. In this village, here, its focus is on sports tourism," Jokowi remarked.

The sports tourism destination covers an area of 16 hectares, which was earlier owned by local villagers. The area has been turned into a football and paragliding field.

"The football field is rented for training and international competitions. It could earn Rp800 million yearly from paragliding. Hence, this village can earn Rp50 billion per year in revenue. Just imagine," Jokowi explained.

The central government has disbursed village funds to Kutuh six times since 2015. The total village funds for Kutuh reached Rp3.5 billion. The fields were built by utilizing the village funds partially and local community funds.

No less than four international football teams had used the football field for exercise before taking part in international competitions held in Bali.

Moreover, Pandawa Beach in Kutuh had bagged the Sustainable Ecosystem Award from the Tourism Ministry. Last year, the village emerged as the eighth most visited destination by local tourists.

During the visit to Kutuh Village, President Jokowi was accompanied by Rural and Least Developed Regions and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, as well as Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster.
