Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has ordered tighter security at the country's airports amidst the tense political situation following the announcement of presidential election results.
"In the midst of the heated political situation and in the lead up to the Eid-al-Fitr transportation period, I order tight security. Sweeps will be conducted, as of tomorrow," he said here on Wednesday.
Likewise, security at seaports, bus terminals and railway stations will also be tightened, he said
"We step up our preparedness so they (irresponsible people) will not arbitrarily threaten bus terminals, railway stations, seaports and airports," he said
Separately, on Wednesday, Vice President for Corporate Communication of PT Angkasa Pura II Yado Yarismano said the country's airports are operating normally.
However, to anticipate the impact of the tense political situation, state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II will increase security and the checking of goods, passengers and vehicles, and conduct periodic patrols according to standard procedures.
