London (ANTARA) - The European Union (EU) has sent a congratulatory cable to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on being re-elected as president of the Republic of Indonesia.

The EU sent the congratulatory cable through a joint letter of President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker while all EU member states were holding general elections on May 23-26, First Secretary of Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels Dara Yusilawati remarked on Friday .

In the joint letter, EU highlighted Indonesia's significance for the 28-nation block as a key partner in the political, economic, and trade fields.

As the world's largest democratic organization, the EU is eyeing to deepen its partnership with Indonesia, including by continuing to hold discussion on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the EU as part of the endeavors to boost the public welfare of both sides.

The EU has pledged to continue its collaboration and partnership with Indonesia through a regional and multilateral mechanism, including the ASEAN, ASEM, G20, and UN.

The General Election Commission (KPU) had concluded the recounting of ballots of the 2019 simultaneous elections on Tuesday (May 21), a day earlier than the scheduled May 22.

The KPU declared the results of all 34 provincial recounts and 130 Overseas Election Committees (PPLN).

The vote count indicated that the Jokowi-Ma'ruf pair had won 85,607,362 votes, or 55.50 percent of the total national vote, while the contenders Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno secured 68,650,239 votes, or 44.50 percent of the total national votes.

The national voter turnout for the 2019 Presidential Election had reached 199,987,870, whereas 154,257,601 valid votes for the presidential election were recorded.
