We will do this only at the right time
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The government will not rush to establish the fifth generation of internet network frequency (5G) in Indonesia, according to Communications and Information Ministry's Postal and Information Technology Resources Director General Ismail.

"We will do this only at the right time," Ismail said after the opening of the 25th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Telecomunity (APT) Wireless Group at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) of Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), Banten, Monday.

The progress of the 5G network establishment is not too fast because the technology is still in the development stage, according to him.

"But we also will not take too long (to establish) so Indonesia will not be left behind by other countries in its implementation," Ismail pointed out.

The government will be, at least, setting up a 5G network after the World Radio Communication Conference (WRC) scheduled to take place in Egypt in October 2019.

Also this year, the government together with a number of communities, including operator companies will hold a special working group to prepare for this 5G network service.

"The working group includes discussions on the economic aspects in implementing the 5G network," Ismail said.

Such a discussion is important to find the best business model that can be used by operators in serving the community with this 5G technology.

Ismail also emphasized that Indonesia will choose the 5G ecosystem, compared to the 3.5G ecosystem which is developing the world today.

"By choosing this 5G ecosystem, the investment costs of operators for the development of 5G services will be more efficient," Ismail said in conclusion.
