Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 rattled the western part of Seram Island in Maluku Province on Saturday morning, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the earthquake that struck at 4:24 West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) was located at sea some 34 kilometers northwest of the island at a depth of 10 kilometers, the BMKG noted on its official website.

The tremor was also felt in Piru, Maluku, at Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) II.

There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
