"He is thinking of how to accelerate (the development of) the Islamic sharia economy as well as working programs in real economy such as the halal industry and the financial industryJakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is seeking to accelerate the development of an Islam-based economy in Indonesia, ranging from industry, banking, and insurance to education, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said.
"He is thinking of how to accelerate (the development of) the Islamic sharia economy as well as working programs in real economy such as the halal industry and the financial industry," Indrawati said in her capacity as chief of the Islamic Economists Association (IAEI) following a meeting with Ma''ruf Amin at the Vice Presidential Office Wednesday.
The vice president also wanted to develop various Islam-based economic activities including the development of human resources in support of these activities, she said.
To ensure that, the creation and strengthening of educational programs to support a sharia-based economy become the center of the vice president's attention, she added.
"On the academic side, more and more institutions of higher learning are currently developing programs related to an Islam-based economy. Of course, we need to develop it further," she said.
During the meeting, Indrawati reported a draft IAEI executive board line-up for the 2019-2023 period to the vice president, who is the chief of IAEI's Advisory Council.
"We reported (ourselves) to the vice president who is structurally and functionally the chief of the (IAEI's) Advisory Council. We also conveyed the draft executive board line-up to him and received directives from him," she said.
Vice President Amin is known for his concept of a sharia-compliant economy which is people-oriented and puts emphasis on bottom-up principles to create justice for all layers of the community.
Top-down economic development in Indonesia has so far led to conglomeration, thus widening disparities within the community, Amin said.
"Hence, our economic development must not only be top-down but also bottom-up economic development. So the question is how to realize collaboration and partnership between the strong and the weak so they will be equally strong and glorious to achieve Advanced Indonesia," he said while concluding the 10th Congress of Pancasila Youth Mass Organization in Jakarta Tuesday, October 29).
