Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - The Counterterrorism Squad of the National Police, Densus 88, arrested five suspected terrorists in the districts of Kampar and Siak in Riau Province and the provincial capital of Pekanbaru, Chief of the Riau Provincial Police, Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendi, said in Pekanbaru on Wednesday,

"The suspected terrorists were arrested in Pekanbaru, Kampar and Siak after Densus 88 launched operations last Saturday, November 9," he said.

However, he refused to divulge further details.

"The Densus 88 team is still conducting the investigation. We cannot disclose anything else now as the investigation is developing," he said.

According to information, one of the suspected terrorists was shot as he resisted arrest.

The chief of the Riau Provincial Police confirmed the shooting, saying the shot terrorist suspect lives in Siak.

"It is true that the perpetrator attacked personnel when they tried to arrest him. He was shot and is now being treated at a hospital. He is still alive and his condition is relatively stable," he said.

During the raid, Densus 88 also seized pieces of evidence, including pipes allegedly used to assemble bombs.
