Jakarta (ANTARA) - A blast broke out at the National Monument (Monas) Square in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police have deployed a team of investigators to the site of the incident soon after receiving a report on the blast.

"We have been checking the site of the blast. We have just finished out morning roll call," Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Criminal Investigation Department Adjunct Sen.Coms.Tahan Marpaung told ANTARA.

The local police spokesman has yet to give an official statement on the causes of the blast and whether or not there were casualties in the incident.

However, Kompas.com was quoted as saying that two members of the Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) sustained injuries due to the blast.

On Nov 13, a blast also occurred in the Medan city police headquarters in North Sumatra Province causing a suicide bomber who detonated his home-made bomb to get killed and six people to sustained injuries.
