I and all stakeholders will draw up a roadmap for the development of national soccer.
Malang, E Java (ANTARA) - The Youth and Sports Ministry has planned to create a roadmap centering on the development of national soccer in a bid to boost achievement and achieve excellence at the international level.

To implement Presidential Instruction No. 3 of 2019 on expediting national soccer reform, all stakeholders will partake in the development of national soccer, Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali stated in Malang, East Java, on Wednesday.

"I and all stakeholders will draw up a roadmap for the development of national soccer," he noted.

Amali emphasized that it was not the sole task of the All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) to develop national soccer but the relevant ministries and non-ministerial government institutions should also strive to that end in accordance with their respective roles.

"(The development of) soccer is not merely the responsibility of PSSI. For instance, if (the PSSI) has no land, then the Agrarian and Spatial Planning Ministry/National Agrarian Agency (BPN) will find land, and the Public Works and People's Housing Ministry will build (facilities for it)," he stated.

Amali made the statement after Indonesia's U-22 soccer team clinched a silver medal in the SEA Games in Manila a day earlier. Indonesia tasted defeat at the hands of Vietnam, 0-3, in the finals.

The minister spoke of once having held discussions with the Vietnamese sports minister on the development of soccer in the country.

He pointed out that Vietnam's victory in the SEA Games 2019 football finals were the fruits of the preparations made by the country in the past decade.

"There is no such thing as instant achievement. It must be achieved through following a long-term, structured process, with a clear goal in mind. We will do that for developing our soccer," he added.
