The number of passengers was counted during the period from six days before Christmas day (December 19), up until two days after Christmas (December 27) at 1 p.m. local time.
Based on the accrued data, 168,084 passengers were recorded at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Christmas day. A total of 59,418 passengers came in through the airport's arrival aboard international flights, while 20,475 passengers came in through the airport's arrival from domestic flights.
As for departures, a total of 61,755 domestic passengers and 26,436 international passengers were recorded.
The number of passengers during the 2019 Christmas day had registered a 7.47-percent decline, reaching 168,084, from 181,659 passengers recorded during the corresponding period in 2018.
Meanwhile, 9,959 flights operated between December 19 and December 27 at 1 p.m. local time, indicating a drop from 11,334 flights last year.
Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin had earlier noted in a statement that a decline in the number of passengers was owing to the steep ticket prices and the large number of travelers opting for land transportation.
Awaluddin stated that the airport's management had forecasted the decline.
The total number of passengers this year was projected to reach 54.2 million, while in 2018, it was expected to reach 65.6 million. (INE)
